Default Running Board Covers.

I have a 1935 Ford Truck and need a set of running board covers. I recently bought the truck and am doing some minor cosmetic fixes to it and am unfamiliar with the Ford parts companies out there.

Which company has the best made covers and how should they be best bonded to my steel running boards? My running boards are currently painted and the paint is bubbling but they are straight. They can be stripped of paint if necessary and the rubber cover applied with a bonding agent.

Any assistance and stories would be helpful.

Trucks are for real men, trucks don't have running board covers. If you want a running board cover look go to the bed liner place and have them shoot the boards with bed liner material.

Dick, thank you for your response.
I was going unbolt them, stripping the bubbling paint due to bad prep-work and since I will not be able to match the paint, I was going send them out to get sprayed with LINE-X as a last resort. I am contemplating next year of repainting the truck but this would require a huge amount of money and effort. I love the truck but the cost of doing it to concours quality is immense. I can live with the bed liner as it is more practical than scratches of passengers stepping on the running boards which they were intended to be used from new.

If I were to respray the truck I would want the running boards the same colour as the truck and I thought the covers would be easier to remove than LINE-X.

Spray on bedliner is what's on my running boards, masked everything off and done in the shop so you could see good, covers really well and makes um look good,I've seen several trucks done that way

Here is what a sprayed board would look like. These are '39 Deluxe/'40 Passenger car.
I want to sell them, by the way. Look for my ad in the "SWAP SECTION". They are super straight.

Mike,

Thanks for the pictures of your running boards. Are they sprayed with LINE-X or another brand of bed liner?

Running boards are supposed to be black on pickups, not body color.

Some of the liner products can be sprayed with a less coarse finish. The running boards are supposed to be black and I can sympathize with the cringing feeling one gets when a newly painted set of gloss black boards gets stepped on and the person twists their foot as they enter the vehicle. You may or may not be able to get a body color match with the sprayed on liner products.

I am being told that LINE-X can be sanded so that it will have a smoother finish. I don't want these to be as smooth as glass but, certainly don't want it to appear to overly rough either. Has anyone tried to sand out LINE-X? Can it be done so that it will knock down the big bumps leaving a less course finish that doesn't show the sand marks in the finish.

Not sure , but they may be able to adjust the spray gun to put on a smoother finish. I'm sure the Line-X dealer has samples to show.
