Side stainless questions
What is the name of the side stainless that loops the windows and looks to be held on by clips on the 41-48 Mercury's and maybe Fords? Were they common? Were they an option? What about the rain gutter trim? Common? Option? Were they all the same as I have seen some that have grooves in the trim? I thought it might be 1941 on the grooved as it kind of looks like the side trim. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Paul Picture is from the net of cars with the trim.

Re: Side stainless questions
That trim ran on the Fords and Mercs from '41- to early 47. I believe it was called a reveal molding. I've never seen rain gutter trim, so I can't respond to that part. The Mercs and the Fords used the same body shell from 41-48.

Re: Side stainless questions
Saw a Ford one time with the rain gutter trim. Turned out to be chrome plastic door edge guard that was installed by the owner.

Re: Side stainless questions
Yeah Lawson, I saw that it grew a couple of doors and your right. Beautiful cars!
I would like to find someone who knocks out the dents / dings from that trim. I need to get some on my 47 straightened up. Kevin |

Re: Side stainless questions
I saw a 41 merc 4 door at a junk yard that had the stainless/chrome drip rails. Unfortunately they cut up the car before I could get that trim off it. I did get the rear window and stainless surround though.

Re: Side stainless questions
Reason is I have 2 sets of rain gutter trim...Yes there metal. Not plastic door edge..but don't know what they fit. Not sure coupe, long or short door, or sedan 2 or 4 door. I have several 5 or 6 sets of reveal trim, but have several sizes and don't know exactly what they fit. I just didn't know if was common or rare. An option? Just have seen pictures, but never on a car to compare to and don't see much written about them. Are they worth anything?

Re: Side stainless questions
I would guess it would depend on what shape they are in. I am looking at Bob Drake, and others to see what the price is.

Re: Side stainless questions
No one reproduces the window reveal trim or the rain gutter trim, so checking with Drake would not give you any information.

Re: Side stainless questions
I removed dents in my '41 trim by laying it face down in a piece of rubber. Cut a piece of wood to fit inside and tap lightly until the dent is moved to the outside. File ,sand and polish. I rounded the wood somewhat to move the dent slowly outward.

Re: Side stainless questions
I think the 41 Super deluxe only had the trim around the windows. both 42 and 46 had it around both Deluxe and Super Deluxe but it was eliminated for late 47/48 altogether.
Note the blue Merc sedan in Chefbiz 62 post is the Canadian produced one on the Ford wheelbase as it has the park light below the head lamps. These were produced alongside the regular wheelbase Mercs there. GB

Re: Side stainless questions
I just acquired a pickup truck load off Ford Mercury stuff. I heard the old gentelman that had all the stuff use to have a 40 Merc. One of the items is a long piece of stainless that looks like one on the side of these cars from the front door to the back of the car. if anyone is interested in it PM me. It looks real nice, not a dent in it. Walt

Re: Side stainless questions
I have a 1947 Ford V8 stock model 79A 5 Window Super Deluxe 5 Passenger Coupe Sedan which was manufactured in June 1947. It has no rain gutter trim; just the horizontal SS down the sides, which was straightened at one time by someone else. Mine is maroon (two different maroon's that year) and judging from your photos your's might be maroon too. RF (2a).jpg
