Default Anyone have a spindle ream NYC or Southwestern CT??

Hi guys,

I need to have some new bushings reamed in a pair of '37-48 spindles and the machine shops seem to only be open when I'm working.

I'm in Brooklyn NY, but travel up 95 to Stratford Ct almost every weekend. I'd be happy to pay for your help/time (or provide beer if you prefer ).

Thank you,
Carl

Do what cas 3 suggests. Hand reaming is old technology and not as 'true".

I just did what cas3 and 19Fordy suggested. It's the best way, have them honed to fit.

Sounds good guys - just wish these shops were open on weekends. Most machine shops have closed in the NYC area as it is.

When I built my first "hot rod" in 1965, I did what any car guy back then would do. I carefully honed them with my wheel cylinder hone. I was probably lucky, but they came out fine. I had the last set done at the machine shop and the charged $75 plus tax and took 2 weeks. If I had to do it again, I'd probably break out the ole' brake hone. Bushings are comparatively cheap if you screw up.

I've got the proper reamers designed specifically for this purpose. They are quick to use and do a great job each and every time.
Yes, having a shop hone the bushings is great albeit overkill. Guys, these old Fords are not Porsche's.

The thought crossed my mind but the cylinder hone I have is a tad to big to fit.

GB Sisson posted his method of honing King pins with out a reamer either here on the Barn or on the Ford Truck Enthusiast (FTE) forum. It seemed to work for him. Just a thought.

Around here NAPA parts store used to have a machine shop in them, if they still have one I would think they would be open on the weekend and could hone them for you.
