Re: Ford !
Yes, that photo was taken outside of the entrance to the Ford Motor Company Export Inc. in Istanbul, Turkey. Here is an areal view of that Ford assembly plant with the location of the photo highlighted by the blue arrow:
If you are interested in learning more about that Ford assembly plant in Istanbul, Turkey (and see more photos of it), you can read all about it, and its history, in the thesis paper written by Asli Odman titled "'Modern Times' at the Galata Docks. Ford's Automotive Assembly Plant in Tophane / Istanbul 1925-1944" (click on the title to access a .pdf version of that research/thesis document). Re: Ford !
The Geelong Australia plant aerial view.
http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/pictures/gid/slv-pic-aaa41109 Rail access close by, and on the main road to Melbourne. The Geelong to Melbourne road was always considered to be the best road in the country to test a fast car. The Ford engineers in the 70's would drive their GT HO Phase 3 (Australian) Falcon's at about 140mph on this road, I gather, and cover the distance in about 20 minutes. The police knew who they were, and would simply wave to them. |

Re: Ford !
If at all possible, Ford always insisted that all worldwide plants had water access for to both receive & ship goods out. This would be for big assembly plants like Istanbul , Geelong, Brisbane, Yokohama & Seaview [NZ] etc.
Regarding Istanbul plant, it was the biggest & only assembly plant in the Middle East area, financed & partly supplied by Ford Britain, also supplied by Ford US. [Those Model A's do not appear to be British] They had labour problems there for some years in early '30's & it never made a profit. This is from 'Ford on 6 Continents' American business Abroad' by Wilkins &Hill 1964. |

Re: Ford !
What a joy these must have been to drive right off the line. Not to say they don’t still hold that charm, but I always dream of sliding into the seat of a brand new
Model A when I see pics like these. Fun stuff. |

Re: Ford !
Two more plants near the water would be Kearney, NJ , Newark Bay and the Rouge.
