play in steering wheel

I have rebuilt 3 steering colm. assy-new worm-new sector shaft-bushing new and honed to slip fit with seal installed on the end of housing....made all adjustments and tryed to get zero back lash with no bind or drag...tight in the center and lose on the ends. the best I can get is about 1 & 1/2 in play in the wheel. I was wondering what the rest of you get when you rebuild these 2 tooth sector boxes and if you ever get zero back lash? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated....and yes I used the directions out of the service builtions and the cheet sheet from the twin cities club.....thanks guys

The few I've done have come out OK, with less than an inch of free play. I follow the Service Bulletins and usually have to go through the settings a couple times to get it to specs.

I found I could get a tighter adjustment per Service Bulletin instructions by having the column installed and car sitting on the floor.
