Don't know about a '40 car but the Drake tank fit fine in my '39 p/u.

Double that Nope. You will need to remove portions of the seam on both edges to fit. Not too bad a job but funny they can't just make it right.

Plus the stock sender won't work. If you get his sender, then it is not accurate with your gauge because it works on ohms instead of heat.

I must have done something wrong! Mine went in just fine in my 40 coupe. The sender is not accurate though.

Well I will say the tank looks good but I made the mistake of installing it from the top when the bed on my'41 p/u was removed. I later found out the seams on the tank are too wide and the tank will not drop out for conventional removal. The service guy at
Drake..." never heard of that before ".

I have installed 2 NOS tanks, 1 each in my wagon and coupe. Getting the original out from the bottom was equally as difficult as installing the new one from the bottom. They were clearly made to install (and likely never be removed ) from the top before the body was mounted.
