Default Rumble Seat Panel and Lock

For the panel that is screwed onto the direct back of the rumble seat body (see pic) is it screwed in or riveted in? Somebody had pop riveted it in and now the rivets have snapped. The panel is getting dangerously close to hitting the top lid.

Also, how do you remove the rumble lock from the lid?

The bottom screws to the seat riser with 1/4"-20 screws and nuts and the top part fits along the rear panel support brace and it has nuts fixed in it that are for #10-18 threads I think ,mayby #10-24 fine thread but not sure but I know they are #10 or 3/16".This panel mayby missing on yours. Now also I think there is supposed to be three holes on each side of the panel, they are not drilled in the repro panels and on mine the three holes are wollered out so I don't know if they were 1/4" or 5/16".

I am pretty sure there is a panel behind it. Do you think I should rivet it or screw it at this point? Not going for points or anything. They are probably repro panels.

The cross bar or panel I am speaking of has a vertical support piece that is in the middle that is also the rear spare tire support.Should be there even if you do not have a rear spare tire.I would use the screws as original,to me it would be easier unless someone has drilled new hole positions.

If you can't open the rumble seat lid because you don't have a key and it was shut and locked, you might be able to take the front seat out, climb back into the rumble seat area, bend the holding tab on the nut that holds the lock/handle and unscrew the nut and remove the handle and lock?

Or maybe I don't understand your question as with the lid open it is easy to remove the nut holding the handle and lock?

I am talking about the mechanism itself inside the lid and how to remove it. The lid is out.

Take the handle out, remove the two screws at the top edge of the lid and the latch mechanism will just drop loose. Pull it out one of the big holes.

The back cushion needs to be pulled upward and will disconnect on each side near the top corner. The bottom cushion springs will have metal extensions that fit down into holes in the seat riser. Pulling up on it at the front should free it from the riser.
