Default Mart's 41 pickup: Why you no start? Impromptu and unedited quickie.

Just an impromptu unedited quickie. The weather warmed up dramatically the other day and combined with heavy overnight rain caused me a no start situation on the 41 pickup. Will it go after some air, heat and spark juice?

I like your truck. It is possible that moisture got into your distributor. When I was much younger we used to take the cap off and spray wd40 in it. This would force the moisture out and the engine would start. I suppose you could do the same thing with air. Good luck

I've had that problem several times over the years. Always turned out to be a faulty distributor cap. Close inspection revealed a tiny crack in the cap. New cap, no problem. It was always in the morning after a particularly humid day. Or rain.

Great 'quick-fix', Mart. As always, you're ahead of the game! I love that old truck, and THOUGHT it was an absolutely wonderful example of an ol' stock, 'beater' Ford truck. Just now, I realize you have one of those abhorrent electric fans hanging on the radiator. What's with THAT? DD

Rather damp in Jolly Ole England then. Well i had a 64 Falcon with the 170 6 cyl. engine. If it was damp at all, i'd hhave to take the dist. cap & wires in the house to dry them or it would not start. Those were new parts too. Still watch'n.....

If YOU are happy with it, you should LOVE your electric fan! I just always thought of an electric fan as something guys made-do with 'cuz they couldn't find something better....kind of like going to the prom with your younger sister 'cuz you couldn't find a real date. But what do I know? DD

PS....Read the link below if you don't believe me.

I see your point, but not being a machinist, I think I'll stick with little sister (she's not that bad looking, imho).

Personally I'd rather run no fan at all but as It is necessary to have one from time to time, an electric one is ok for me.

As I don't have a younger sister, I'll have to stick with it.

Mart.

RE : no fan. A friend has a 38 Phaeton with no fan and it runs just fine even on hot Ohio summer days.....just amazing.
