Default Rear Hub Puller

I have a 1948 Ford banjo rear end I am trying to get apart and one of the hubs is stubborn as hell. I got one side off with a 3 jaw puller but I can’t get the other one off. The jaws keep slipping off the groove. Would anyone with one of the purpose built pullers be willing to let me borrow theirs? I would of course pay for shipping both ways and would even pay a rental fee. Just can’t bring myself to buy a $100+ puller for one hub! Thanks

I'm not in fl anymore. But many that are that could run by. Maybe a city might help. Most likely you can keep your parts.

I’ve had great success in the past with the 3 jaw puller. This one hub just seems to need something more. I certainly will bite the bullet and buy one if no one comes to the rescue.

Three jaw pullers often damage the hubs, it warps them. It is certainly not the best way to pull a hub. I believe VanPelt rents the correct puller out with a deposit.

Find the local chapter of the Early Ford V8 club. They're generally an affable bunch of guys who help each other out and they'd be likely to help you out too.

Just looked in the EFV8 roster book. There are four chapters in Florida and they are:

Gator V8ers in Palmetto Bay
Palm Beach in Lake Park
Gulf Coast in North Port
Birthplace of Speed in Port Orange

I've used my KW puller on the same car at least a dozen times. Trust the guys who say you WILL need it again. Well worth the purchase price.

Maybe Jim Pullen (19Fordy) in Coral Springs can find a way to help you out if he sees this. He may know of someone with access to a correct puller. DD

Just saw this.

Brad, If that "lend" falls through, you can use mine like V8 suggested.
Be sure to follow the directions re: puller use. Be sure to remove axle nut and install "cap" that fits over threaded end of axle.
I am about 55 miles north of you. Probably 1 1/2hours with traffic.

Here's the same as mine for sale at a very fair price.

If your pulling on the groove in the hub get a length of 1 "link chain and go once around the three legs ,with a 2" bolt through the chain tighten it up .It may take three hands to do this but it works ,Ted

Buy the Winfield Tool Works puller. It is a copy of the original KRW tool. I've had mine for many years. Using a three legged puller is likely to warp the drum. The KRW fits over the hub groove. You put it on, tighten it down securely. Bang the center screw, and the hub will pop off the taper. The price has gone up over the years (I paid $75 dollars for mine, in a spiffy wooden box) What ever the current cost, it is well worth it. Their phone number is 631 928-3316.

Check with your local Auto Zone, O'Rilleys (sp?). They both have a tool loan program where you pay for the tool, use it, bring it back and they give you a total refund. Used the service many times. They may have something that will work. You can even go on their site and search for the tool and determine if it will get it done for you.
Worth a shot, Chap
