Default '41 shocks are worn out

I got the Tudor on the road today and the shocks are shot! What are the recommendations? Having them rebuilt or replacing them. Is it possible for a novice like me to rebuild and if not, where to have it done? How about any kits for changing to tubular shocks? ps; She sure looks good cleaned up and with the new Diamondback wide white walls. First time back on the road in almost twenty years!
