Page 72 of Drake's catalog shows all the pieces and springs and how they go. I have a 40 deluxe and a standard and I am not sure what you are describing. The main pivot for the handle you lift was originally like a rivet. You can get a replacement that takes a cotter pin. I can't visualize a threaded shoulder bolt in that whole setup.

The part used to be a rivet but the sleeve has threads in it and it goes to the lift handle and the chrome hood ornament.I'll put a bolt back in but it is what Drakes kit came with.It has been 10 years since i put it on can't remember that far back now. Thanks it is part # 91a2466 in pics will put a little locktight on it this time

The parts that actuate the hood release handle are held together with pins and the pins are retained with cotter keys. The only part that uses a threaded pan head screw is the lower part of the hood ornament just behind the hood release handle.

TJ is correct. OEM has no threaded pins or sleeves. Just "clevis style" pins with cotter keys. There is no clevis used. Are you sure that part # is correct? Here's the underside of my DeLuxe hood latch mechanism. Parts are original except for Drake lift handle and a couple of flat washers. Can take more photos if desired. Hope this helps.

I was thinking that the pin that the handle pivots on was a pin that had a tapered head on one side and hollow on the other end and once the handle was put in the hood ornament the pin was installed and was bradded like a rivet . That way the ornament and handle could be installed in the hood as a unit then the actuator arm was pinned and held with a cotter pin.

I think that is right but the one I got has a #12 course thread but the sleeve doesn't go all the way to the other side of hood chrome.I will hopefully get time today to try the bolt in it.After market stuff never the same as org.The other pieces have pins and cotterpins for assembly. Thanks for pics I see the pins with cotterpins but as I said my is not the same stuff

Flatmotor, If possible please post a few photos of what you are dealing with.
I think I'm not grasping your question. Thanks.

I assumed he is referring to this pin. This is an original ornament and handle I have.

flatmotor; Just curious, where did you get your aftermarket parts from requiring the use of #12 bolt? I bought my hood handle from DRAKE back in the 80's and it was like the OEM with a pin.

Sounds like "Industria Argentina" to me. Or perhaps a backyard repair of someone putting a new handle in an original bullnose. I too have used a couple of Drake hood ornaments and handles that had OEM type pins.

It came from ornament came from Drake but the install kit I think came from Macs back in 2000 or so.It had some of the pins with cotter pins but this one piece had the thread insert sleeve.Thought I saved the directions but in my folder of parts sales slips and stuff for this car it was not in it Thanks now to get the hood chrome back on
