Default Re: Straight Slotted instead of Cross-Point

I replace my straight slot scews with Phillips at each opportunity. Robertson and Torx screws for construction (impact driver). I try to avoid applying to much torque to my model A fasteners.

I believe that the Phillips screws were designed so that power drivers could be used on the screws in mass production work. This was very beneficial during the World War 2 especially. They "slip" when over-torked.

Most modern Phillips screwdrivers slip too easily. I grind back the tip of the driver in order to prevent slippage.
