Fender welting painted?
I am buying new fender welting for my 41. In 41 was the car assembled and primed and painted with the welting or was the welting put on after paint?

Re: Fender welting painted?
Seem to remember that all the welting was black and installed after painting. The only time the welting was body color was when the car was repainted without removing the welting. If you want the welting the same color as the body then install it first.

Re: Fender welting painted?
Original welting was black on all models. Today, welting is available in colors.

Re: Fender welting painted?
Roy Nacewicz has the correct fender welting. I'm pretty sure that Fords were black and the Lincolns were body color. I've painted the welting from Roy and it's still holding up after 20 plus years.

Re: Fender welting painted?
Can remember installing stainless steel welting on at least one of my cars.
Was a fad at the time and seemed to give the car a little more 'class'. It's available here--- https://www.bobdrake.com/FordItem.aspx?Item=48-16070-SS

Re: Fender welting painted?
Thanks for the imput . I was hoping it was left black originally (painted welt looks like a repaint even if it is original ). I was going to use Roy Nacewicz for the welting.

Re: Fender welting painted?
For 1941 through 1948 the anti-squeak welting consisted of pyroxylin cloth-covered 3/16" diameter bead welt. As shipped from the assembly plants, the anti-squeak welting was black on 1941 and earlier cars and on most 1942 cars. On the 1946 - 1948 Ford cars it was body color. LouB.
