Default Right hand Conversions

Is anyone, down under, converting a left hand drive Model A to Right hand drive? I think closed cars are rare down there.

I'm not down under but I converted my A400 to rhd. It's a killer job.

Why would anyone want RHD in the states?

I have done them both ways , no big deal, just takes a bit of time,
Tom to answer your question , maybe its to get the steering wheel on the right side,?? Out here i enjoy my left hookers more than my right hookers, One can keep closer to the edge of the road. Plus you don,t get knocked over getting in & out.

I know of only a couple of LHD's that were converted to RHD here. Really, most who would get in a Model A from the US go for something rare here & being LHD adds to the kudos/ cool factor. There is no problem using a LHD here & being high up you can see everything except maybe on the rare occassion of overtaking.
Closed cars are not rare here in New Zealand, but the phaetons were the most numerous, followed by Tudors , roadsters& fordors ; in Australia, most Model A's were phaetons as it was the base model they built at Geelong.

I am converting my 29 Special Coupe from LHD to RHD. But this was a body only that I will be fitting to a RHD chassis.
No Special Coupes were imported originally, so they are rare down here. There are already a few that have been imported.

There was a whole list of what was required for a swap on the old fordbarn thread number 18405. I know there are a couple of guys that have the old fordbarn archived, maybe they will repost the info.

Maybe because it's something different ! It's interesting to find out what Ford offered in other countries as well.

I have a rhd and wtd to convert it to lhd. So much fun driving on the right that I'm keeping it
that way.... would never consider the conversion now.

With the value of a dollar these days, it is also far more marketable overseas the way it is.

It's probably easier to restore a RHD car at the moment for 2 reasons .

Some of the vendors are selling RHD steering parts

Plus we have a worldwide network on the barn with people in RHD countries who can supply advice and parts !!

Just thought of another thing about RHD A's. You get a wide choice of colours that include coloured wheels and mudguards(fenders), and within the JS.

In New Zealand I think we still had black fenders originally. Karl

Does anyone out there have a color chart for English Model A's?

I ask because the English Model A club have the names of the colors,

but no idea of what the colors actually look like ,

As Dave in Oz mentions above some of the foriegn Ford plants used different colors than the USA

Will there be an example of a RHD car in the new Model A/AA Ford Museum?

The parts needed to convert from left to right would change depending on year and body style but if you think hard, it's pretty obvious. All the steering, the push rod for the starter, the front windshield, the bell housing, brake and clutch pedals, floor board, floor mat, the rubber pad around the column, top of transmission, intake manifold, pitman arm, gas tank. They also make the rhd pedal pads, muffler clamp, and air maze.

Don't have the post Pooch but I'll give it a whirl;

steering arms, drag link, steering column, drop or pitman arm ,bellhousing & pedals, brake crosshafts, starter linkage to pedal ,throttle linkage, intake manifold, gas tank and transmission top.

On the mid 28 to early29 with the hand brake in front of the gear lever ; You don't have to change trans top or handbrake crosshaft

Thats all I can think of at the moment I'm sure someone else will chip in if I missed something
Good Luck with your project
