Default Pressure Testing Blocks

A few vendors sell the plates and hardware that allows the home mechanic to pressure test a 24 stud block for water jacket cracks. Sets are about $250. Are the kits made well, and will they hold pressure for accurate testing. First hand experience requested please.

I made my own, used a head gasket as a pattern, flamecut the combustion area... Used a cyl head to do the bolt holes myself. Made a real crude looking but functional water pump plate. Object is to be able to hold about thirty pounds of air, use a spray bottle soap/water to look for bubbles.

It should not be a problem for anyones block off plate to hold thirty pounds of air.

Mine is made of 3/8" plate and will hold 80 plus lbs. I use a home made rubber gasket...

Also- not all cracks leak... Magnaflux also.
