Re: C4 neutral safety switch interchange?
Doing your homework for you. Found on e-bay, price is HIGH, but you need a shift arm similar to this FLOOR SHIFT SELECTOR LEVER C4-C5 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION Preferably a cheaper used OEM one... Notice how it bends away from the NNS, opposite of yours?

Re: C4 neutral safety switch interchange?
Completely.
This car has been on the road and driven with a toggle safety switch and will go back on the road again that way before I change the shifter rod. The transmission came out of a 77ish Marquee I believe. I drove the car to my house and pulled the engine and trans. I have only worked on the inside of a few transmissions and this one was not one of them. This trans is the way it came out of the car. Guess I need to buy a NS switch for that car. Anyone need: 12/15/66-69 C4,C6 NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH. HAS FOUR WIRE PLUG. Never used, just tried to JAMB it on a shaft that would not except it. |

Re: C4 neutral safety switch interchange?
I think that the floor shifted C4's had the switch on the shifter linkage? Looks like you may have to either change shift arm or make a linkage type switch. What steering column do you have? I have a GM van in my 46 and used the switch that mounts on the column. Good luck, persistance will solve it.

Running an early 70's GM column with floor shift. Column is not hooked up to the shifter.

Re: C4 neutral safety switch interchange?
MY C4, out of a Mustang, had the switch on the trans. All Mustangs had a floor shift.

Most Aftermarket shifters have a Park/Neutral safety switch. My Lokar has one thought I am using the stock C-4 one. Could you adapt a switch similar to this Universal Mechanical Brake Light Switch on your shifter OR on your brake pedal so you would have to step on the brakes to start? Better than nothing. I have reached into my car thru the window to start it and have been suprised to have it start... in gear. Later found out my 6yo Grandson (at the time) had been "cruisin'". That's back when my RanchWagon had still had the Ford-o with a column. shifter Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 02-27-2013 at 12:25 PM. |

Re: C4 neutral safety switch interchange?
The picture in post #8 is my shifter. It's from a 94 Cadillac Eldorado.I will be using a switch similar to that or a retro fit shifter switch from a different GM shifter.
Talking to a friend of mine and his buddy started his Factory5 race car in reverse last last. They had to build another door for the car. |
