Good clean grounds, correct size battery cables, and good wiring all add up to no need for an 8 volt battery.

I have just spent a short time cruising around the internet. It looks to me like 8 volt batteries are not that common and expensive when you can find one. The ones I found cost as much or more than an Optima. The warranties don't look that good either. More reasons to use an Optima.

8 volt batteries are commonly used in electric golf carts. They use a bank of them connected in series.

I can see the draw to 8 volts. The only thing I see a person really needing to do anything with, is the generator. I suppose it would have to put out a little over 9 volts to charge effectively. 6V bulbs and all should still work just fine with the voltage increase.

I need a battery for dad's '34, and cringe at paying $187 plus tax for an Optima... but, that's what I'll probably end up doing. Sure is tempting to try and 'hotrod' the system with a couple extra volts, though. lol

I should have clarified in my previous post about lights. I meant for 8 volts would be fine. of course if going 12v you would need to change them all out. Same with gauges and other stuff. Runtz are available for gauges (fuel, oil, and water). Need one Runtz for every guage.

I still think with 8v, I'd want to add something to get the coil down to around 4v. Stock resistor will only get you to 6v on a 8v system. But then again maybe that's okay, might have to change points more often... I don't know really.

I don't want to sound like a sales pitch. But the Optima's are a dang fine battery. Will last long. But I haven't had to rebuy one in 7yrs or so.
