A friend in my local club just bought this car. Its a 30 model a ! But has this different set up . Can someone tell us what we have here!
It steers good and stops good ,but we would like some info on it Sorry about the size of the pictures !! I can't figure out how to shrink them

Looks like the pictures came out ok! On my computer they are very large!

I'd say you have a modified 37 or later rear axle. It is a little confusing though. The lower rear spring mountings are shorter than 37 to 48 but the bell tubes are larger than the model A 32 style set up that those hangers simulate. It has juice brakes like a 39 or later rear axle would and the banjo housing looks 35 thru 48 too.

It looks like someone welded the Model A style hangers on and shortened the other hangers for some reason unknown to me.

The front end looks like they put some later 42 thru 48 spindles on there so it would be easy to put the juice brakes on. That was a common mod in the 40s & 50s and still is with the hot rod crowd.

Plus the aftermarket steering arm is moving your draglink a bit from stock location, so your steering ia a bit odd center.

39 rear axle with spring perches welded on for the A spring, drive shaft and torque tube shortened. 46-8 hyd brakes on front and rear. That hairpin arm is dangerous. Just watch it when someone turns the steering wheel with the wheels on the ground. It can be made safe by welding a leg to it and bolting the leg to one of the bottom backing plate bolt holes.

Under hood is a stock model a engine and trans. But We belive it has been a hotrod in its past !
