I have an aftermarket gasket. Looks like the others that some forum users had to modify. I was wondering if anyone makes a good replacement? Or does one just not exist and i must modify the one i have? Thanks

My initial response regarded cowl vents seals, which, of course, was not the question. The reproduction firewall to cowl seals that I've seen bear little resemble to the original and are junk. I restore and re-use originals.

A friend of mine in CA made me a small batch of 20 in the correct thickness (around 75% the thickness of those everyone sells) and they were made from Viton which is the most durable , They were very good, but it took us a long time just to sell those twenty. Unfortunately my friend Randy has passed away and the tooling seemed to have been scraped, so making another run is not possible.

So, we are back to selling the typical seal and it will work but is too thick as David mentions primarily it seems when using a original firewall. (at least from what I hear from customers).

I have a Brookville roadster and a Brookville firewall. The only thing i had to do with my gasket was cut just a little bit off. I am pretty sure the gasket come with the body form Brookville.

I found this gasket. Its used but seems to still be nice. It has threads in it. Is this more suitable even though its used?

That's the real deal - correct cross section shape and fabric reinforced. It is a hundred times more suitable despite being used.

We recently tried four different gaskets (no original ones) and found the Vintique to be closest to original. My brother used that on his coupe. I used one of the others (I forget which manufacturer) by sanding it thinner on my belt sander. It's a messy job, and I wouldn't want to try test-fitting it on a car with fresh paint. Lots of on-and-off to get it just right.
