1955 Ford Wagon side window channel

Question for the guys who have replaced the sliding window channels on the rear side windows of 54-59 Wagons. Can I use the same channel material that is used on the front door windows?
No suppliers list this channeling specifically for these rear windows, but it does look very similar.
Thanks for any comments from wagon restorers that have done this.

There is a rigid and flexible channel I used on my '59 Custom sedan, Y619 & Y620, sold by a bunch of places.


Best bet, can you get a piece of the old stuff? Restoration Specialties has dimensions in their catalog, this is how I matched up mine. You may call Dennis Carpenter up for his opinion, it does seem like the wagons are uncharted waters.

I have yet to find anyone offering the correct sliding window channel, I ended up building up the metal channel in the body, top & bottom by about 1/4" and then used regular window felt channel glued in place.


As popular as wagons have become someone is missing the boat by not making the replacement pieces. HRP

I found the correct size channel at a local upholstery supplier for my 57 Ranch wagon. It had the stainless trim, was flexible enough to make the bend and was the correct depth.


That was a couple of days ago and I have sleep since then or I could tell you the name of the manufacturer. My records all went with the car when it was sold.

For my ‘56 ranch wagon, I used restoration specialties y526 in the 96” length for each window. I got it from them uncrimped (you have to ask for this). The uncrimped allows you make the bends without messing up the channel.

This is supposed to be flexible channel. I shopped around with my car to get the right lengths and not waste too much of it. Over 6' there may be shipping restrictions.

If you go to a shop that does real auto glass work, (not one of those quickie windshield places that installs chinese windshields) they will sell that stuff in I believe 6 foot lengths. There is a bendable type, and a rigid style. It's not very expensive.
