Maybe the large hole in the rear bearing is not lined up with the bushing above it. I found this out as I disassembled mine for rebuild.
The previous owner did a rebuild and when he couldn't put the rod down, he must have just knocked it down and it bent the edge of the bearing into the gap between the two rear journals. It worked but I had a hard time pulling the cam out for my rebuild.
You may be able to look down thru the bushing and see the problem?

All you will be able to do is tap the bearing further inwards with another bearing as a punch, not rotate it or pull it out.

There is always an electric fuel pump.

After you remove the idler gear between the rear end of the cam and the oil pump, you can see the entire edge of the bearing in the bore. If you carefully place an old bearing on the existing bearing, edge to edge, you could tap it forward if you're careful.
I would place something solid over the old bearing to spread the force of the tapping. If it was mine I would try this before removing the cam, lifters, etc. because you would still have to pull trans, flywheel and rear cover.

We may be getting the cart before the horse here. Need to determine what the problem actual is first. It is most likely the cam bearing being in the wrong position, but that needs to be verified.

Does the rod go in but is a tight fit?

Post #6 says that the cam bearing is too far REARWARD by 1/10 of an inch. Best to verify which it is.

As 40 said....its best to verify where the bearing actually is, and I'm also wondering if it's the bearing that's actually preventing the fuel pump pushrod from moving up and down in the first place?

i think so , i can see the edge of the bearing .it wont allow the rod to drop down contact the cam lobe ..

I know I posted earlier but this seems like the type of problem that will only get worse if you try to enlarge or move the cam bearing without disassembly.
