Default Gear Vendor

Photos of Kailua's Gear Vendor OD unit. This is similar to the unit I have except mine is in a 65 Comet Cyclone with a 460, C6 and 4:11 9 inch rear end.

Thanks for posting the pics, J.
Don't know why I couldn't get them up

I like your car, J
Looks like a serious race car

When I did mine (in pictures above), the fellow that helped me had worked for GV for some years (he provided me an empty case to use as a mock up).
He also had a very special OD that GV had built for him to make it shift much faster for use in a race car. But it was stolen from his work place before he was ever able to use it.
Jim

One with a 460+ engine on N2O! The OD is controlled electronically from a pushbutton on the gearshift. It allows you to select multiple gear combinations. The OD is there for highway speeds not for acceleration (except when you have trees to pull).

Those 64 and 65 comets were 2 of the best factory drag cars produced. In the 60's, I would go to Lions Drag Strip every Saturday nite and Sachs and Sons would run their comet and smoke the tires the whole 1/4 mile. Ah yes, the good days. You did good J.S.

Built the car for my son, bought it around 1980. It has gone through several different engines and drivetrains. Not many of them around, I always loved the body style. The current setup is running in the 650-700hp range.

Yes mate, I'd still wanta put 5.13's and a four speed up it, it would make me laugh like an idiot every time I got in it! Smash through the trans like Dick Landy, punching the clutch and not letting off the foot feed through the quarter! I think there's a clip on the tube with him doing this, hanging off the back of a cigar.
I'd love something I could treat with that level of contempt, with that amount of horse power.
Martin.

You sound like my kids! They are all stick shift fans, I always preferred automatics on the big horsepower engines.

Just watched this a couple of days ago. His shop was just a few miles from me and he use to run at the old San Fernando Drag Strip in the early 60's and was the first to show up with an altered wheel base.
