Default Need help with wheel trim rings

Hello all,
I need some help with getting the right wheel trim rings for my '41 PU. My truck has 5x15 Mercury wheels instead of the original 16's. I've recently had the wheels painted and want to replace the trim rings. I measured my wheel depth and it looks like it is 1.5". I guess my question is 1.5" the correct depth for trim rings for these wheels?
Thanks in advance,
Randy

I have no idea on the trim rings, but like the truck! Might post a photo.

You have stated that you have Mercury 5 x 15 wheels, are they the '49-50 style with the outer hub cap nubs, or the '47-48 with the inner nubs? The '47-48 will accept the stock hub caps and are the same as '57-66 Ford F100. The '49-50 Merc wheels will not accept the original '41 Ford hub caps.
OK, now to the original question: As I recall the '41 Fords used a 4 rib SS trim ring that is 1-1/4" inches wide. This style of trim ring is available in the aftermarket for 15"wheels. The common style 15" SS trim ring is also available in the aftermarket custom shops.
If you in fact you have wheels that have a 1.5" outer lip, then you would need a 1-3/8" wide trim ring which nobody makes anymore. They were common to the large cars, Buick, Packard, etc.

The common 1-1/4" trim ring will work just fine on the wide wheels, the only problem is a gap between the trim ring and the wheel that most people will never notice.

Thanks Bill. If it seems that I don't really know what I have, well it's correct. I was hoping for a reply to better explain what was available back then. These are the wheels that were on the truck when I purchased it last year. I guess I have the '47-'48 as they will accept the stock hub caps. I measured the lip by placing a straight edge across the outside of the wheel and measuring to the hub. I've seen the four rib style along with the smooth for 15's.
The trim rings that were on the wheels were date stamped in the mid eighties and I'm not even sure they were Ford. The rings that were on the wheels looks like it is 1.75".

I need to post some new photos of the truck. I've recently replaced the bed and a few other things. I've been away from it for several months due to moving.

I don't think trim rings were a very popular option on trucks back in the day, but now, I think they'd look good on that '41. That being said, I am very partial to '41 car hubcaps and trim rings on this era vehicle.

You can look at Bill Hirsch & maybe try "The Filling Station" (Even though its "the other" manufacturer) we found very close to what we wanted there!!!

I have the 15" wheels on my 40 coupe that take the original hubcaps (bumps in inside). I found online ribbed 15" trim rings that look like the original ones on the 16" wheels. They were pretty inexpensive, less then $100 for a set of 4. They are chrome plated stainless steel. You need to bend the tabs in a little to get them to install easily since they are new but look fine when installed.

When you measure a wheel trim ring you have to measure the amount of off-set they will cover, not the width across the edge of the ring.

I can assure you that any wheel trim ring that is available in the custom market will fit your wheels.
I would suggest that you purchase stainless steel in lieu of chrome plated ?. Stainless steel is non magnetic and therefore will not rust or peal.

This is a 15" Mercury wheel, I think. It is 5" wide with inner nubs. See the attached picture, the trim ring is against wheel and is 1 1/2" wide.

I found some on ebay. We'll see how they look. One of their photos showed an F-1 PU so I thought that might be a good sign. I'll post some photos when I get them installed. Thanks for all of the input and clarification.
