Re: 49 F1 I 6 carb question
Maybe trying to use the gaskets as a carb spacer? Also the hole in the carb throttle body should line up with the hole in the gasket.

Re: 49 F1 I 6 carb question
The exhaust manifold heats the intake under the carb by design (they are bolted together). As I recall, 3 gaskets were installed by the factory. Your truck probably has extras to try to prevent boiling in the carb with modern fuel.
The hole in the bottom of the carb is a dead-end, should be blocked.

Thanks all. Any leads on where I could get a 1/2 inch spacer?

Re: 49 F1 I 6 carb question
Phenolic sheet can be had from Mcmaster Carr for $65 ish +shipping. Aluminum can be had from online metals for $30 ish plus shipping. Both would require a trip to a machine shop. Better yet, if you have an iron monger local, a drop piece of .5" aluminum would be next to nothing. That route would also lead you to a machine shop. With careful measuring, and the correct bit, you could do it yourself.

Re: 49 F1 I 6 carb question
It is for the PV, but is just the end of a vertical passage that has a branch off it to the throttle bore.

Re: 49 F1 I 6 carb question
Ross, thanks for the illustration. I would check the carb being used to make sure there is a hole in the bore too. I saw one Model 847 like that before, and there was no hole in the bore that intersected with the vertical channel.
