Very rare early 28 dash
Here are a few shots of the AR dash I just bought:
No indentation for bottom screw holes, cut rather than pressed Bottom screw holes 1/4 wider apart No cut off on top I've compared it with an original later dash. I'll have some work to do! I had modified my gas tank to fit a later dash. No one here could answer my question if the bottom screw holes were wider apart! Wish I knew you were looking for one as I purchased two at Hershey last Fall and then had them correctly plated. I will use one for a current project and so I have one of the non-clipped and one of the clipped, --both that are the early non-countersunk screw holes.

Please post a close up photo of the exterior of the bottom screw holes on the 'punched' panel. I suspect you will find it has a very slight (& uneven) chamfer around the face side of the holes. I believe the early ones were first punched and then a quick chamfer (for oval head screw) by a separate operation. Later ones had both done in one operation, thus the better indent. The chamfer on mine, and others I have seen, is very shallow almost to the point of being imperceptible … the oval head screw fits poorly!
Note the white swills in the photos is a coat of paste wax to protect the parts during restoration. |

Very nice find !! The really early instrument panels also used a different style screw that was unique to these early panels.

I found this thread to be very interesting. I had never heard of the non-countersunk hole dashes. I looked in my stash of '28-'29 dashes, and found that I had three of them !
I am advertising these for sale in "THE SWAP MEET" Section. They are all clipped. Does anybody need one ? Two have a lot of original nickle on them and one has surface rust, but no pits. They are pictured in "THE SWAP MEET". Thank you, MIKE (mikeburch) |

My late '29 Canadian Tudor [ it is the original dash to the car] has the non indent bottom holes & non cut top.
This may well be a supplier difference. I see that Pooch has the same type on his Aussie assembled [ Canadian chassis] car ; it is likely Canada used only one supplier for the instrument panel. |
