You can...you can also use talk powder or baby powder to aquire the "slickiness" needed. Your choice.

Be sure to use talc or baby powder on the inner tube so it can slide into place easily inside the tire. I used to use liquid dish soap to mount tires, until I found it was corroding the aluminum rims and always leaking air. Now I use Vaseline.

I've had great luck with the black plastic garbage bag method and talc. Can be laid flat or on a rear spare tire mount.

I use the plastic trash bag trick. Makes like easy.
I also has trains Standard gauge and Eropepan prewar Gauge 1. Collecting and operating old cars and trains goes hand in hand. Many members do both. TCA York is coming up 18-20 April. Be there. You can register on line now!

Take a pint sized container to your local truck tire repair shop and ask if you can buy a bit of the tire lubricant they use. The stuff is great and goes a long ways. They buy the stuff in bulk and the odds are they will just give you some.

Please don't put water, lube, or anything else that can get into the tire. It will contaminate the inside. Even a bit of water will give you freeze issues.

Use Baby powder and if you don't know the garbage bag trick post again and we will try to talk you through it. If your wheels are fresh repaint, use 2 4x4's on the floor, place a blanket over them, then put your wheel outside down and do the wheel from the back. This should not be hard thing. I did all five of my tires the other morning.

I used a small pallet, turned upside down that I could set my wheel (outside hub facing downward) that worked great for changing my tires. I also used the garbage bag and talc powder. In some instances I just used 2 tire irons and protected the rim finish with a rag placed under the tire iron. Go slow and you'll get it.

I will admit the experience in high school having a summer job busting tires back in the day helped me in the process!
