Room in P-U Cab?
I have not yet tried to sit behind the wheel in a closed pickup. Would there be much difference from what I have in my stock '29 coupe?

Re: Room in P-U Cab?
Yes, I find pickups to be the tightest fit, and the least comfortable.

Re: Room in P-U Cab?
My brother picked up between 1 and 2 inches of room in his pickup by redoing the seat back. Can you imagine driving and making deliveries all day every day in such a tight and cramped space. The AA cabs were the same as the PU.

6' 200lbs here. I had to modify the shift lever just so I could get my foot from the accelerator to the brake quickly when in low gear because it is so cramped. If I could do it all over I would not have a closed cab pickup.

I'm about your size and I've had both coupe and closed cab. Both were 30-31 which I think are a bit roomier than 28-29. I could drive the truck but it would have been a problem if it was much smaller. In any case, I wouldn't have wanted to drive very long in it. The coupe had adjustable seat (don't think 28-29 does) - with the seat all the way back, it was OK. |

Re: Room in P-U Cab?
I really wanted a pickup, I'm 6'2 250 and am pretty comfortable in my 30 coupe. I had a chance to try on a 29 and a 30 CCPU at a local Model A get together, the 30 was doable but no where as roomy as my coupe, the 29 was impossible to get all the way in and get behind the wheel. I settled on a 49 F1, still not lots of extra leg room.

Re: Room in P-U Cab?
Standing at 6' 3" and all the while, I am getting more stove up, our CCPU was getting harder to comfortably drive. Trying to function in our '31 CCPU was becoming a challenge. Mods were made. 3" of seat springs were removed from the back rest for more body room. Also, 3" of seat springs were removed from the seat bench so that I could see under the windshield visor. The shifter was bent a bit to the right so that I could more easily lift my right foot to the brake pedal. The clutch pedal's limiting top stop was relocated so that the clutch pedal now doesn't raise as high out of the floor. The clutch pedal is now located two inches lower making it easier for me to lift my left foot to the clutch pedal. The '31 CC pick up now is more comfortable to drive than our 1930 Model A phaeton. To fix our phaeton next, I guess the same modifications will have to be made. For me, changing the seat springs' height for both of the seat cushions was the greatest improvement.

Re: Room in P-U Cab?
At least one of the aftermarket upholstery suppliers offers pickup seats that are thinner than stock. I'm also 6',1", 185 lbs. but quite flexible and have had no comfort problems in my wide-bed. Good luck!

Re: Room in P-U Cab?
My 29 RPU is tight getting in and out, but I find it quite comfortable driving. Im 5'11" 185. Now if we are talking about a long tour, i might feel different. I had good advice as to how much padding to use in the seat, so I had as much room as possible.
