Many of them don't have the centrifugal weights to aid in clutch pressure or the adjustable fingers. There are some cheap repros out there now that don't hold a candle to the quality of the originals.

I took my 8rt flywheel and 9 inch pressure plate to a machine shop to have drilled and set for the 9 inch. They quoted me a price of less than a hundred dollars. They called to tell me it was ready and when I asked what the price was they said 282.00 and the price was for a four hour minimum @ 65/hr plus tax. After I got up off the floor I argued my story. Was told the person who quoted me wasn't authorized. Am now debating what to do. I have another flywheel but need the 9 inch pressure plate and noticed that the tractor is much cheaper then the auto. Do I get raped and pay the $282 or start from scratch? This goes back to my fitting an 8rt into a 38 ford coupe.

Or atleas they better come up with a sweeter deal that doesn´t make me blow a fuse...

I'd speak with the owner... the guy that quoted wasn't authorized? Too bad, so sad - for the owner. Perhaps the owner needs to train better, etc.
Plus, just for the record... to drill six holes on location is an hour tops IF the guy knows anything about machining. This is first year apprentice stuff at best. Four hours? Either they went on coffee break for three hours or didn't have a clue what they were doing.

tractor clutch disc have no flex plates in the disc which allow for a softer engagement look at the side of the clutch plates and you will see them

if they wont budge, id let em keep it. they wont get any resale out of it. find another shop, get a firm price, and start over. i have too many, you can have one if willing to pay the freight.

Sounds like a good case for small claims court. A quote is a quote.

Pay with a credit card & dispute the charge afterwards.

The owner sounds like the best bet. The shop foreman is the holdup. He also said he could work the tax if I paid cash, wondering if he would keep it. This is a very large machine shop in downtown New Orleans.
