Default Water pump adaption

I have a 51 flathead 8BA motor that I plan to install in a 1939 Ford pickup. Which water pumps do I need to use on the 8BA so I can leave the regular motor mounts in the pickup? Thanks

You will need a set of 1946-1952 Ford truck water pumps. It not quite that easy though, unless your '51 engine is from a pickup. If it's a car engine, it will have dual narrow belts rather than one wide belt. You will need matching crankshaft and generator pulleys to make it work (the easy way).

You'll also need the pickup/truck oil pan.

I'm running an 8ba in my '39 p/u. The engine was out of a car so it had narrow belts. I'm using OCM narrow belt Merc pumps. They appear similar to 8rt wide belt truck pumps but the mounting pad is higher on the Merc pumps so you need to use a Merc U shaped spacer to compensate for the difference in heights. The Merc pumps aren't repopped so they are difficult to find. If you do go the Merc pump route send them to Skip in Florida for a rebuild. I'm using a rear sump truck pan but a rear sump Merc pan will work as well. Also, you'll need a cast iron 1/2 bell from a truck or a stamped steel 1/2 bell from a Merc so you can bolt the '39 trans to the 8ba. If you plan on using an 11 inch clutch you'll need the truck 1/2 bell, otherwise the Merc will do.

Great information. I need to start accumulating all the items needed. I thought my biggest item was the water pumps, but it looks like that is just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks

51504bat, The pictures are greatly appreciated. Your truck looks really nice as well. Love the barrels! Randy
