Would it not be a lot easier to just go o Harbor Freight and buy a CHEAP CHINESE drill Press than to go to all the trouble to build one ?

This is the kind of stuff my father would make in the 1960's. He was always broke, but found ways to cobble up all the woodworking equipment he ever needed. I still remember his drill press, a lot like this one. It was all 'Rube Goldberg' quality stuff. I wish I had half my father's wherewithall.

I recently bought a drill press (from that well known auction site) made from model T parts. It's really nifty, and should make a nice display piece for the lounge. I doubt I'll be drilling any holes with it.
I'll try to post some photos tomorrow, if I get the chance.

Chris,

Have you got a hand grip throttle on your portable charger?

Batteries don't care what brand make the juice that flows into them.

I like the charger. I'll bet the handle and Briggs engine came off the old reel mower I used for the farmer I used to work for. Those old cast iron Briggs & Stratton engine are nice runners, and very fuel efficient. I used one just like that on my neighbor's go kart and could run all afternoon on a quart of gas.

Ditto's on "Thanks for posting this site " , gonna have to make the "speed chuck for the lathe" item , great ideas in those old issues . Its like looking at my collection of old "Shop Notes" , of Mechanic Illustrated . These ideas remind me of my dad years ago , only had a sixth grade education , but a graduate collage amount of "common sense" when it came to making do with what was on hand , and the things he could come up with .
