I have a '23-'25 hood I want to repair, and it would be a lot easier (for me anyway) if I could remove the pins from the hinges. Any tips, hints, tricks or glossy 8x10's would be greatly appreciated.

Spray the hinge area liberally with WD-40 or PB blaster and get a friend to help hold it up. I put it on a vise with jaws slighly open,and tap pin on one end till I get about 4 inches out. Then clamp that in the vise and rotate/and pull on the hood till you get it apart. Workes for me. Good luck.

I have used a drill motor to turn the rod while pulling?
Any lube would need to be used also!

Thanks guys. I'm going to soak the side pins again here in a minute, the center one is free, will post some pics as I go along.

Okay, I got them out, took a little while, because the side ones were frozen pretty good. I have been soaking them since the end of December. Today I took a screwdriver and opened up the rolled areas (very slightly, at the ends of each roll) so the PB Blaster could soak in a little better. Got both sides freed up and pivoting, took a pin punch and got the rods moving. Moved them back and forth a little, and cleaned up the end I was going to drive through with a file, so the burrs wouldn't drag all the way through. The one on top is an unwelded piece of rolled tubing, I used one of the side rods to drift it out. I am going to make a template of one of the good louvers, and also the ends of the good side of the top. I will post some pics of that, maybe later today.

Sounds like the tough work is done. Once the sections are apart I use an old gun cleaning rod with brass wire brush and ran it back and forth until the surface was real clean. Then followed it up with a light coat of oil just to prevent rusting before inserting a new rod and painting. I think I used the 410 shotgun size. I also used stainless steel tubing on the hinge rods so they wouldn't rust. Good luck.

I have started cleaning the rust off of the hood parts, that will take a few more days. For some reason, I cannot get pics to upload on here, even though I can on the HAMB. when I get that ironed out, I will probably start a new thread on the hood repair. The right side is in fairly good shape, but the left side looks like a cow stepped on it. Being a desert find (and free!), I am just happy to have it at all. Thanks again for the tips, Don.
