Default How to install door bumpers

On my 31 coupe all of the door bumpers are a pretty easy install with the exception of the metal clips and rubber pieces that install in the door. I have left them till last and hope someone in the barn can give me some insight on how to put this puzzle together.

Ok so the old round peg square hole comparison comes to mind. Here is the set and based on measurements either I am going to have to do a good bit of trimming or a miracle is involved.

Order a few replacement sets, too. I have been struggling with my '30 CC pick-up for over a year. Does anyone have a template to trim from?

TinCup: do a search, marco has some pics and I believe there were hints on how to trim them to fit.

I have been looking for several days and have not found anything. I looked at his and Vince Falters sights first.

The ones from Brattons fit my roadster with no trimming required, rubbers in first, a shot of wd-40, pushed the middle piece in with part of a wood shim..was done in 10 minutes

Does the orientation I show in my picture represent how to install them?

Yes, I don't know if the size is different between a coupe and roadster, but they look a third bigger than the ones I had

Tin Cup you are not the only one wrestling with these things. So let me add a second plea for picture if some kind soul has one.

I don't think a picture of them installed will help much, once installed there isn't much to look at.

Based on some posts on the board I talked to Brattons today and asked them to measure the rubber pieces for their coupe bumper kit. Their's measure just under 7/8" while the ones I got from Snyders measure an 1 1/4". I ordered theirs and will take some pictures for comparison when they get here.

Did anyone ever figure out how to install these door bumpers for a 1930/31 FORD Model A Coupe? I bought a set from MAC's (Item # A702610IS) that is suppose to be for a 1931 Sport Coupe. I have built a home and restored a few cars; however, I am stumped with these bumpers. Any help is appreciated.

It's really easy this way... Put a c clamp (about a 2 or 2 and a half inch clamp) in a woodworking vise so that the boxy holder just fits under the clamping threads. Put the rubber parts in. Wet them with a bit of soapy water. Use the c clamp to drive the metal part directly in from the side past the rubbers all the way to it's final position. Using a screwdriver or something like that, wedge the edges of the metal part into place inside the boxy holder, one by one. Took me a while to figure that one out, but it works great! Good luck, Rancho

I don`t have a picture handy but I think you have the wrong rubbers. I just looked through Bratton`s and I think you need part#30960.Marco has went over this before,

First thing is to call Brattons and get the right bumpers. Yes they are a major pain but here is how I did it.
I used some silicon to make them easier to slide in the door. I put the bottom one in first then the top. Next I took the brass piece and using a large flat blade screwdriver I pressed it in.

This picture shows the difference of the bumper that I bought from Mikes that Snyders sells and the kit I got from Brattons.

Tin Cup,

I believe you have 28-29 coupe rubbers. The 30-31's are shaped entirely different. Got mine (for 30 coupe) from Snyders and they are fine. You should look at Marco's picutre in a 2-28-11 post. Neither of yours look right.
