Default 64 Galaxie rear brake cylinder

This is a first for me. Various part suppliers offer 2 different rear wheel cylinders for the Galaxie based on the bore size 7/8" and 15/16".

The old OEM catalog shows two, both 7/8" bore parts C3AZ-2261/2-A and C3AZ-2261/2-B the the difference being a paint daub color of brown or black.

Anyone have any idea what the difference would between the 2 colors identifiers?

And why would part suppliers like MAC show 2 different bore sizes.

Probably left and right sides. They are not identical but mirror images.

No idea on the bore size differences, but could be wagon vs sedan or suspension package having bigger bore

I agree that engine/vehicle type would require different bore sizes, it's just the old catalog just uses color and showing the same 7/8 bore. I would think maybe a catalog error showing the same bore size and should have one 15/26 and one 7/8

If you are describing the period FORD MPC, it ID's the wheel cylinders by color code so that the TECH does not have to disassemble to ID the bore size.

DRUM BRAKE balance is achieved by brake shoe size, wheel cylinder bore size and MC bore size. There is no valving (other than RESIDUAL PRESSURE VALVES) as there is in a DISC BRAKE application.

If the paint daubs are no longer there, you will have to break one down and read the size of the cup.

Why not peel back the rubber boot enough to measure the ID of the wheel cylinder. Then get the same size. I think NAPA Auto Parts is a good source for things like this too. Maybe see what the NAPA catalogs says as far as 7/8" and 15/16" cylinders.
