1951 Ford Club Coupe Gas Tank Replacement
Getting ready to replace the gas tank in my 1951 Ford Club Coupe.
Looked at Shoebox Central website. Their replacement tank requires a 5 screw hole sending unit. The original tank & sending unit has 6 screw holes. They offer both sending units however, disregarding the number of screw holes in each, the 2 units are a TOTALLY Different design/style from each other. ( Note: another vendor offers an adapter plate to mount the 6 screw unit to the 5 screw tank) Question: Anyone have knowledge/experience as to which design/style sending unit is the better of the two? Thanks |

Re: 1951 Ford Club Coupe Gas Tank Replacement
I used one of their tanks with the five screw sending unit. Installed sending unit as per their instructions. Worked good up to about 3/8's of a tank then went to full. Not accurate at all! Does keep you from running out of gas so, I guess that is a good thing. About all we can expect in these days. This was a '51 Ford.

Make a pattern of the 5 hole unit and transfer it to your old unit and re-drill the holes.

Re: 1951 Ford Club Coupe Gas Tank Replacement
I was looking into this earlier when thinking of replacing the tank on my 51 fordor. The problem is the diameter of the original king seely unit is bigger than the hole in the repop tank. To use the original sender, you need to make a bigger hole in the new tank. For this reason, I’m in the process of reconditioning my old tank to use the original sender.
