Default Input Shaft (Drive Gear) Bearing Removal-T87

In need advice regarding the removal of the input shaft bearing on my t87 Transmission. The bearing practically rests on the drive gear and there is little room to get a puller or an arbor suppert under the bearing to press or pull it off as instructed in the ford F series truck manual. I am considering placing the shaft back in the case with the assembly supported only by the snap ring when pressing it off but I am concerned that it will - well, snap. Any suggestions or experience here will help. I can't afford to damage the shaft. TIA, Carl

Take it to your local machine shop, they have the bearing separator and can r&r the bearing quickly. if you want to do it yourself you need a thin bearing separator tool. tool will cost more than the machine shop charge. some Fordbarner will have a better idea then mine...jdl

It's not pressed on very hard, just remove the snap ring and and any brg. spreader will just catch on the edge and it will press right off. Walt

Yes, more a push fit than a press fit.

ummm.....never had the front ball bearing just push off for me. ALWAYS took the power of a press. The rear bearings can sometimes be pushed off, and are not the same tight fit as the front bearing.
