Glass Setting Rubber
Good evening,
The rubber channel which I purchased for installing the fixed glass on my coupe is smaller in all dimensions (including thickness) than what I removed. When set in place the frame / molding did not compress it. The original rubber is deformed, showing that it was compressed. I bought the new rubber from one of our highly-regarded suppliers, so I would guess that all vendors sell the same stuff. Does anyone know where to get better quality channel for this purpose? Thanks, Mike |

Re: Glass Setting Rubber
Wefco Rubber Manufacturing Company, Inc...
www.wefcorubber.com Look it up on the internet. When I restored my 1929 Standard Coupe 40 years ago or so, I went through the same Bulls&%$ that you are going through right now. So I contacted them, sent them the best sample that was in the three windows originally, and they sent me back what was very close to the original. For all you purists out there, the FORD Part Number for the Quarter Windows is A-46790. For the rear window is A-47086. BUT...It is the same type of moulding for all three. The FORD Archives also has Part Releases and Drawings of this moulding...So to get really techinical, you can get the drawing and send it to Wefco so as they can match it up even more! I also got the correct rubber channels and tubing to do the door roll-up window channels...If you have the original hardware...you can make your own! They are still in busisness...as a matter of fact I just orderd some hollow round tubing for my 1938 Gilbarco Gas Pump I am restoring. But if you are in a hurry...well, you get what you get! Best I can do for you on this end. Pluck Last edited by Steve Plucker; 08-19-2013 at 09:05 PM. |

Re: Glass Setting Rubber
most automotive glass shops have rolls of the butyl rubber you need; bring a section of the old to show them and also the new to show them what doesn't work and see if they can match it up

Re: Glass Setting Rubber
If the glass-setting tape is to thin, fold it over to double its thickness.

Re: Glass Setting Rubber
Just for S&%$S and giggles I purchased side widow glass and found the glass was thinner than original. I had to double the setting tape. Go figure.
