Default Battery suggestion for a 272 F100

The truck (1957)didn’t have a battery when I bought it.
Could someone recommend a battery?

measure the battery box and take the dimensions to an auto store. they can match the correct battery

Giving them the Year & Yehicle info should bring up a battery 'applications' list on their screen with a few choices.

CCA = Cold Cranking Amps
Will the truck be parked indoors or outdoors at night or over the winter? Will you drive it over the winter?
Do you have a battery tender / charger for it?

A battery with a higher CCA rating will be more important if it sits outside over the winter months and you're occasionally using it during that time without the battery having been on a small charger or tender.
It will have to keep a good charge under more stressful conditions. If you have several choices there may be a notable cost difference.

Because of the narrow odd size battery tray in this red car the choices of battery are physically very limited.
This one looks to have been original to a small yard tractor (???) not a car and I suspect the CCA rating reflects that, but since it's parked inside with a battery tender on it 99% of the time, it has had no trouble at all starting the car.

I've used a Napa Commercial 29NF in my '60 F100 (292) for years with no issues.

My '57 Ford (not a truck) came to me with the same battery and it fits the tray, although the original hold down hardware is missing.
Speculation...
Ford may have used a similar size / type battery across vehicle lines to simplify their inventory processes.
Or, at least as likely...
it could just be a reflection of the remaining battery manufacturers limiting what they make to items that sell enough to be worthwhile, and eliminating the old one-off specialty size batteries.

29 NF, used in Tbirds, was also used in Ford trucks. In fact, it is referred to as a commercial battery by Ford, and I think interstate also uses that designation.

They all use the same size numbers.
The N means it’s a narrow battery, the F is for Ford, I think, that means the terminals are reversed.
All of my cars have longer than normal cables so I can use a group 24 battery in any one of them and the cables will reach. The group 24 was standard in a lot of cars, especially GM.
Everybody has them and they are the cheapest.
I had to get a battery on the road a while back when I had a trailer with me with a ‘38 sedan delivery on the trailer behind me.
I called AAA to get a new battery. My F1 has a 12 volt battery. The AAA lady checked the old battery and started to put the same size battery in when I asked if the price was less for a group 24. She said it was $10 cheaper.
I got a group 24.
By the way, if you can avoid it, don’t buy a AAA battery. They just don’t last. Mine lasted 9 months. I didn’t bother with the warrentee. I saw too many come in the last three garages where I worked.
