I have to at least see what they look like..

VintageCopper47 how do you know it's a CA car? I do know it was purchased at Pomona.
One of your photos shows a CALIF plate... I am a trained observer

Arturo
I know you have stated that "it fires right up!" BUT IF it is still a 6V system you have the wrong sized battery cables for you system, the ones you have are for 12V systems...I am quite surprised no one has mentioned that...even though it fires right up you may want to address the cable issue for the optimum performance and charging of you 6V system.

rockfla - Yes it's a 6V. Actually, it doesn't "fire right up". I figured it was because I rarely drive it. Lets say once a month-maybe. When I turn the key, it feels like I have to find a "sweet spot" for the motor to turn over. I tried a new starter motor and the same thing. The choke works and it has an electric fuel pump. I keep it on a batter tender.

Two things, First..get the right sized battery cables. Second....make sure your ground at the frame is good and clean and any other grounds you have like from the engine to the body etc etc clean them good and re attach them..I'll bet you a dollar the outcome will be quite different.

I just realized you were looking at old pictures I posted of when I 1st got the car. After replacing the battery we also changed the cables. Here's the latest.

I'm glad you changed the cables. I was concerned about that braided strap going to the starter solenoid.

What should the cable size be ? 00? The ones that I replaced them have no markings.
I only noticed the one ground from the battery cable post to the side of the motor.

Generally "O" is big enough BUT the further distance from the battery to the starter "OO" wouldn't hurt!!! Always remember that obviously 6V is half the volts BUT its twice the amps as 12V so wire size is critical. Make sure ALL of your grounds are in place and good and clean too!!!! After you clean your grounding areas real good, I use a thin swipe of dielectric grease to help keep the connection clean and from corrosion. You can use other stuff as well, my dad has used vasoline (petroleum jelly) for years!!!!

Lovely car. None of my beeswax, but I'm no fan of the green-knobbed power cut off. They like to corrode at the point of connection.

Clem
Take the cables loose from your cut off and clean them and spread a little coat of vasoline on them, your issue will be gone!!
