Default Lincoln's Funeral Train

The Abraham Lincoln reproduction funeral train rolled through Fishers, Indiana this weekend. I took the A out for some pictures with it. The locomotive was giving promotional rides to raise money for next year's celebration when it will run the same rails as it did when Lincoln was transported to his burial ground. The funeral car is still being constructed. Really neat!!!

Nice pictures! Reminds me of my first electric train in the mid-1940's. My dad seemed to play with it more than I. : - )

Beautiful engine.........of course I might be partial to the 4-4-0's. LOL

I wonder where home is for that engine? I've never seen a full sized 4-4-0 steamed up and running.

Steve Plucker will appreciate this.

I've always been partial to the Lionel General

Instead Dad gave me Marx's "William Crooks" which is similar - but not "The General."

The LEVIATHON and the JUPITER were practically "sister" engines coming from the Schenectady Locomotive Works and shipped to the Central Pacific Railroad in California for the building of the transcontinental line in the 1860's. Beautiful works of art on wheels.

The one in the top photo is a very nice reproduction. If you do a Google search on Lincolns funeral train, looks like there were several Loco's that pulled the train(s). Could have something to do with different track gauges through the route or different owners of the track.

this is straying way way off the topic so all due apologies. perhaps many of you know this, but there are fascinating histories (repeated on the Net) on how an attempt was made to steal Lincoln's body decades later and it led to an opening and viewing of his crypt to insure that the real Lincoln was still in there. A bizarre story, perhaps even a little morbid.
