Can I use these lifters?
I'm beginning a rebuild on my 8ba type V8. I picked up these NOS lifters a few years ago and may want to use them. I believe they are for earlier V8's. Dimensions appear to be the same....
Aside from how they look, are there any differences? |

They are ok for a stock engine. You should use the hollow steel ones for a performance engine. They can be recognized by having ONLY two 5/32 holes in the side. If you use the ones you have, be sure there are no rust pits or corrosion on the face. |

Re: Can I use these lifters?
Those lifters are for the early mushroom tip valves used with split guides; I've never used them with 49-53 valves upon the advice of others. There is concern of the smaller contact area of the late valves accelerating wear or punching through the early lifters. I have disassembled engines that had mismatched components and there was a definite recess of the contact point on the top of the early lifter. Spring pressures, r.p.m. and valve float all enter into the equation but I'd recommend matching the lifters to the valves........I.M.

Re: Can I use these lifters?
Your right Pete, those are cast iron not hollow; my advice is for hollow non scalloped lifters...... eyesight is not so good anymore.... the weight of those would be my only concern......I.M.

Re: Can I use these lifters?
Thanks for the replies!...yes it is a stock rebuild. The engine had the hollow steel ones, but they are very worn where they contact the valves.
