Default front u-bolts

can the front u-bolts for the spring be replaced without removing the radiator?

Yes they can, or at least should be if the correct length . Remove the nuts . Pull up enough to remove crank bearing ( what the u bolts pull down on) and you should be able to raise them up and angle over to the side with the play in the hikes to remove them. I have done many while doing service work. If they are cheap repros that are too long then cut them off I would'nt pull a radiator ! Reverse in the same manner , once new ones are in pull them up enough and off to the side to get the hand crank beating plate back into position. Make sure it's positioned properly before tightening fully .
Easy job....

Henry, I have to disagree I have done much service work and its really not that big a deal I would never undo electrical connections, remove the hood, and go to the trouble to remove the radiator and hoses to do that job

Do as I prescribed and its an easy job , yes close and you have to sometimes wiggle them out but not that big a deal
To me doing all the work for the radiator is an incredible amount of more work and unnecessary .
Just my 35 years worth of experience

I just pulled the axle on mine without pulling the Radiator-----It's not that hard, plus you don't have to readjust the position of the Radiator gaps on the hood.
