Default Coker Tire Report

While in Hershey last week, I bit the bullet and bought a set of 5 of the new Coker radial in 600 x 16 size. My roadster has later wheels on it. I had Lesters which giv a nice soft ride, but the seams in the road surface always cause the car to lurch from side to side. After reading many positive reviews of the new raidals, I bought them. I can't tell you what a difference they make. It's like a different car. I think they are worth every penny...

How's she look? (I know, they are WHITE)

Can you describe the improvement in some way at all? (better handling, braking distance, what??). Thanks!

I like your car and the white walls look good on it. I had 16" white walls on my coupe, but changed to 19" black walls because the ww were so old they were hard and didn't give a good ride. I'm glad to hear the 16" radials are nice. I was thinking about getting those but decided on the original look. I am ok with either the 19" or 16" and either black or white walls. They are Model A's and look good whatever shoes they wear.

Your car looks great . One question I have is can you use your stock wheels with tubes or do you have to purchased a new reproduction wheels ?

The wheels are original 16 inch Ford wires and I'm running with radial tubes. As far as the change in handling, no more darting back and forth with every change in the road surface. Also the cornering is much more responsive. The tread pattern is not like a typical modern radial, but more like an earlier tire tread. Can't say anything about the braking, but since the brakes always were very positive with the Lesters, I would guess they would be at least the same.

One funny story, I took them to a small tire shop in town, since they said they could mount them for only $10 per wheel (that's one tire off and one tire on per wheel). I have my own manual tire machine, but hey, for only $10, I'd let them do it. They had a problem with the tubes in that the stem kept falling into the wheel when they inflated them. They said that although they tried, there was something wrong with the tubes. I took them home to my manual machine and had no trouble. I just turned the tube over and put the stem to the front of the wheel. I guess the tire guys aren't used to mounting tires with tubes....

They were $265 each plus the tube. I bought them while in Hershey at Universal Tire. Same tire with the Coker name, but I've done business with Universal for over 25 years and like the service and personnel better.

Those deluxe coupes are just the most beautiful of all the A's! What a great looking car! I didn't realize that just tires could make that much difference in the way it handles, sounds like it was worth every penny.

I also have a 30 Deluxe Roadster. I invested about $1,200 in four 35 Ford powder coated rims, four new Firestone 6:50 x 16 www tires from Universal with new tubes and flaps. I went with 6:50's as they are the same O.D. as the original 19's. I only carry 25 psi in them. A beautiful ride and handling on the open road at 55 mph.

I checked on Coker's web site, and they are only available in white wall. Too bad black is not offered. Excelsior is available in black, but even more money.
