Default Tom Endy

My good friend Tom Endy has had some health issues in the past few weeks.
While he was recovering from a nasty chest cold he had a heart attack which sent him to the hospital.
An angiogram found three arteries 75-90% blocked.
Tom had triple bypass surgery on December 23rd.
Tom is recovering in Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA.
I am sure he will be back on Fordbarn as soon as he can.

Bryan

My best wishes to Tom. I have been down that road with a quad-bypass and about 10 stints since then. They estimated that I would be good for ten years but it has been 20 years this coming January. I can work on the A for an hour in the AM and an hour in the PM which is better than the alternative. At 83 years old now I can only be grateful for the time I have had. Be brave Tom, you will enjoy the Model A hobby for years to come. Jack

Been there, done that in 2003. Just had a battery of things to check if I needed a defibrillator/pacemaker and check on kidneys. All clear no machinery in chest, just the stents so far, Not necessary at 82, Still doing my own work for the most part. Get well Tom, you are too valuable to not be on the forum.

Tom is always very helpful and available to help his Model A friend’s. He lives only about 6-7 miles from me, and I called and went by his house several times, with questions or concerns about my A when I first bought it. Hopefully he will fully recover and continue to be a wonderful resource for all of us!

Tom,

As you may remember, I had the same surgery in 2005.
I have a seven inch scar on my left arm where they removed a vein to replace one of my clogged arteries. That scar is a daily reminder of how fortunate I was to have that surgery. Nowadays they snip the vein on both ends and pull the vein out one side leaving no long scar. Fortunately, you will remain as handsome as ever.

Be sure to do the breathing exercises, religiously to get your breathing back to 100%.

It will take a while, but you will be fine.

We need and appreciate all you do for our hobby.

Best regards, Neil

IMO, Tom's posts are worth not only reading but paying attention to. I look forward to him posting again but in the mean time, he will be missed. Get well again soon, Tom.
From the little I know of the American health system, that would have been a very expensive surgery. Hope your insurance is up to it. You can do without that extra worry. I've even seen cars advertised for sale to pay health bills over there

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery, Tom!! Hang in there!

As a relative newcomer to Model-A-dom, I highly value Tom's input on this forum and elsewhere, and have saved a few of his articles when I have come across them, for future reference. (At Tom's request, I have even contributed to his collection of rear spring potential horror story photographs, one of his hobby horses! Despite my embarrassment, I was happy to do this for the collective good.)

The guy is GOLD!

I've never met Tom, nor had any exchanges with him. But the thing that impresses me so much about him is that he never gives any "shoot from the hip" answers, but always researches and knows his subject, before putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). He offers information on things he knows well, and it is always right. I really respect him for that.

Having had a quintuple bypass my self about 10 years ago, I'm sure Tom will be back soon with more of his invaluable advice and information. Would that we all were more like Tom Endy!

Get better soon buddy!

Good Morning all...Tom is in a Great Hospital. Both our daughters were born at Hoag one in the 70's and one in the 80's. I purchased my first Model A in Newport Beach in 64 or so. Get well, Tom. We are all pulling for you. Take the time to fully recover and then ease back into the Model A world. I'll bet you can't wait to drive your 'A' again...I am praying for you...Ernie in Arizona

I had not read any post by Tom Endy so I looked at them out of curiosity. He certainly knows Model A’s and is generous in his help to all. I think one could well call him Mr Model A.
I too wish him well. Gary Mexted, Tocumwal, Australia.

Tom: Now 13 months into the bypass, didn't get a speedy recovery. Only stopped whimpering at 4 months. Still impressed with how slow things improve. Now starting to forget the ordeal and the scar is fading fast. Will get back to Vneck shirts soon. It is the trauma of the procedure that makes things complicated. See you at the Pancake Breakfast! Our best wishes to this great member of the Model "A" family. It is never a good time of the year to be sick, but this is the worst time of the year to be "under the weather". To Tom and to others that are sick we will keep all of you in our prayers.

Tom, best wishes for a speedy recovery. I had a double bypass 16 months ago and did great. I was told not to drive for 2 months but 1 month after surgery I had to drive A to swap meet, it was just 2 miles away but I felt like I could have driven 50 miles with no problem.

Some heal slowly, some fast. When I had my heart attack and quintuple bypass, I was installing a roof on my new house. 1 month later, I was back on the roof finishing the job. It took another month to get back to full speed, but I was sure lucky on recovery. I wish the same for Tom!
