1931 Model A for Sale
I am trying to help my mom and dad sell their 1931 Model A with Rumble seat. Any help on where to post this would be great. We are in North Carolina about 40 miles east of Charlotte. It is currently listed at $20,000 or best offer.

Re: 1931 Model A for Sale
I would post on Hemmings. List as much as you can about condition of car, work that has been done, when and who did work. Owners over the years. Also have many pictures.
The more information you can give. The more interest you will have. Also I would do some research on pricing. Check EBay and other cars posted on Hemmings. Price it properly and it should sell. Good luck. |

Re: 1931 Model A for Sale
While this should be in the classifieds, I think you are asking for ideas where and how to sell. I would suggest by doing a little research on what coupes are selling for, real market not big house auctions. While Ebay is a big house auction, they do have a feature that allow you to check what items have sold for.
Were they member's of any Model A clubs? Has the car won any awards thru one of the Model A clubs, not the local all makes type. Sit down and write a good ad, describe what has been done to the car etc. Are there any receipts to back up any work that has been done? Take good photos, left right front back under engine etc. Bit of a critique, the first photo is not bad, 2ed one too dark to see what is there, 3rd car is lost in the back ground. Find a place to photograph where the back ground is not overly cluttered and has GOOD light, that one is most important in my OP when trying to sell. Is title or paper work in order so next person can take ownership? As for selling, try one of the National A clubs, here, Ebay (you will reach a VERY large market via Ebay). Be realistic about the price, while you can come down, starting too high for the market can push people away even if the ad says make offer.

Re: 1931 Model A for Sale
Nice looking coupe !!! I know this probably isn't enough but most of the coupes that I see advertised are in the eight to ten thousand dollar range. If the coupe has won in national judgeing with MARC or MAFCA the going price will usually be a good bit more .

Re: 1931 Model A for Sale
Since it belongs to Mom and Dad the best advice I could give is to buy it yourself and keep it in the family

I think the most of the guys here will say if you sell it there will come a day when you wished you had it back.

I agree with Keith and Charlie.
At least keep it for at least a year, then see how you feel about it. |

While you're keeping it for that year, don't let it sit unused, drive it and enjoy it.

Re: 1931 Model A for Sale
Thank you guys for all of the input. As a father of 7 kids I would love to keep it myself. I am currently the only one that does drive it. I am currently trying to find a way I could acquire the 31, but mom wanted me to see about listing so I thought this would be good place to start. I will take everything into consideration as I proceed in the near future.

7 kids sounds more like a trade for a station wagon!

Re: 1931 Model A for Sale
Jon - I am currently getting "Pop's Jalopy" ready for the road. It was my wife's grandfather's car which he bought new in 1929, as a farmer in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Strasburg. The Jalopy was parked in 1956 when Pop passed away. It sat in a garage until 1988 when the home place was put on the market at auction, along with the Jalopy. I researched the Jalopy's value figuring to win it at auction. My research showed it was worth about $1500, but I decided to go as high as $3000 in the auction, given it was a family heirloom. The Jalopy went for $4600 to a man who was buying it for his wife, whose father was the mechanic who worked on the Jalopy. I felt badly about losing it, but I didn't have a lot of money at the time. I sent the buyer a note telling him that if he ever wanted to sell, to please let me know. In 1998 when I got home from work there was a message on our answering machine: "If you still want the Model A, give me a call." I went out and made a deal with the owner for $2750, as he realized he had paid way too much at the auction and, anyway, I think he wanted us to have the Model A back in the family. For you, I think the question is whether whatever you can get for it would be that significant to your family's financial situation. As I said, at the time of the auction of the home place, I didn't have the money to win it. But, now I have it and my wife and I are glad to have it back in the family.

Re: 1931 Model A for Sale
Yep, My folks had 7 boys, so my dad bought a new 1954 Ford Country Squire station wagon. He hated that car so much that just 2 days later he went back and bought back his 1950 Studebaker. That Ford sure sucked gas.
