Headlight bar problem
I bought a stone guard for my 1930 Murray fordor. The problem is there is only 1/2" space between the bar and the radiator grill. It appears that the headlight bar may be installed backward. Is this possible? I looked at all 3 of Les Andrews books and Les Pearson's book. Can't find any info on installing bar. Should be simple, just put bar on fenders and install bolts. Please give me some help with the best way to go. Thanks in advance.

Re: Headlight bar problem
The left headlight mount will have a squared off section at the bottom for the horn mount. Rod

Re: Headlight bar problem
When I first got my '31 PU, the headlight bar was very close to the radiator. Then is when I discovered that the headlight bar was from a 28 or 29. Replaced it with the correct headlight bar -- problem solved.

Re: Headlight bar problem
If it is mounted backwards, the headlamps would not mount, since the sockets for them are angled towards the front. Yours may be bent, or off a 29. It should be curved upwards gently from side to side, The 28-29 is straight across.

Thanks Rowdy and Carl, I will check it out. Carl, I have some great memories of Anchorage. Fishing Bird Creek, having a cool one at the Bird House Bar. Having grilled halibut at the Great Alaska Salmon Bake on 3rd st. Getting my vision checked at the Great Alaska Bush Co.

Re: Headlight bar problem
Here's a tip for you guys who insist on mounting stoneguards on innocent Model A's: To keep the stoneguard from rubbing against the headlight bar (as often happens due to damage, mismatched parts, metal fatigue, reproduction parts, poor restoration work), buy two of the ignition cable rubber grommets (also used in the battery cable to the starter guide). The Snyder's part number is A-11580 @ $1.30. Slice through them on one side only. This will open them up like clams so that they can be placed over the headlight bar next to the front edges of the stoneguard. They act as a dampener against metal-to-metal squeaks and damage to the stoneguard and/or headlight bar. This keeps the stoneguard from vibrating and coming loose, too. I have done this to numerous customer cars with stoneguards and the owners have always been happy with one less noise coming from their cars.
