Default painting spokes with tire mounted

I just need a color change from bright yellow (wow!) to a nice black for a driver PU. What is a good way to mask the tires to prevent overspray?
thanks guys,

In the past, I have let the air out and collapsed the tire off the bead and lay news paper in the bead area all the way around. Front and rear. Paint and after drying, remove the paper and air them up. Just my 2 1/2 cents

By the time you do that, you can take of the tyre!

The easiest way I’ve found to paint a rim; get an old deck of cards and place them tucked between the rim and tire one by one and over lapping, all the way around the wheel. Spray paint and move on. It’s really very fast and you can use the cards many times.

I have masked the tire with masking tape and then sprayed. What a waste of time that was! The best, of course, is to dismount the tire but ZZlegend's option works well too. Good luck with the new color.

DC36: Welcome to the barn. I like your old playing cards idea. May have to try that someday. I have masking taped alot of wheels in the past for quick touch ups. I think the cards would be much faster.

Use an old table cloth. Cut a hole one half smaller than rim. Stretch it over rim. Works like a charm

Maybe you should go back and read the posters question.

This is why I don't post much any more. Negative attitudes.

That card trick sounds pretty good (pun intended). However, I find that with spoked rims you have to shoot the paint from so many different angles to get all the nooks, crannies, inner backs of spokes, etc... that no masking covers everything that is needed. Also, if you are painting over paint, don't you need to get in there and scuff up the old paint?

I find it easier to just unmount the tire...

Good luck,

Ken
