Default 42 Ford Running Board Covers

I'd like to know who has installed running board covers. I want to know where you got them and whether they were good or bad. I am about to install them on my 42 and I'd like to avoid the bad ones and learn what to look for so the finished product is a good fit and finish.

I got mine from Carpenter. They seem to be good quality and look great and are holding up.

I did not want to spend close to $200 with any of the venders for two running board mats for my '48 Tudor Super Deluxe, so I sourced the rubber myself and made a killer pair for less than $55. I don't mind spending money for quality stuff, but I hate to waste it. I ordered a 2' wide, 1/8" thick, 4' long weatherproof piece of corrugated rubber (Item # SN-750) from American Floor Mats, Rockville, MD for $31 with $15 shipping. I got a tube of waterproof automotive adhesive for rubber from ACE Hardware for $9. I made a cardboard pattern for the driver's side and flipped it for the passenger side, and the running board rubber mats came our perfect. I also have enough product left over to make another set if needed down the road.

edhd58: Absolutely. Busy day tomorrow with wife's doctor appointment(s), but will try my best to get a couple posted. I guarantee these running board mats are high quality, corrugated rubber and fit on the car like a hand in a glove.

edhd58: Here are two pictures from each side of the car. Mats are actually black as night. Garage lighting and camera flash make them appear somewhat washed out. Hope that this helps.

Mine won't have the trim down the edge. Do you think that will cause me any problems?

Don't know about a '42 but I bought mine for my '41 thru Vintique and they fit like a glove (1996). We sold the car in 2017 and they still looked great but I kept the car under a car cover whenever it was in the garage.

I bought them for my '40, they are from Vintique and I am very happy with them.

I wouldn't think so as long as you use an ample amount of rubber adhesive. The ones that I made for my '48 are basically inserts that fit between the frame and the outside metal edges. When the doors are closed, the running board mats are completely covered and protected from the sun and weather. So, I'm thinking that they should last a long time. I don't really know about a '42, but think that it's the same.

I found a set of new "Vintiques" on EBay. with the glue for 120$. Got them in a few days, now just have to wait for a few warm days to pull the boards and ut on the covers.
