Default Help with 32 differential

I am trying to get the driveline free from the pinion on this 32 passenger banjo. I don't have a press, so I'm using whatever caveman means to do it. It appears that the nut on the pinion gear is what holds the shaft to the differential. Is this correct, and what suggestions might someone have for me? I have heat and hammer.

The nut next to the gear holds the shaft in the pinion. I have not taken one of these apart. I would use a bottle jack to push the pinion and shaft out as a unit. I think a press and a bearing separator would be needed to get the shaft out of the pinion. Others will know more than me.
The two nuts on the tube side just set the bearing preload. The torque tube holds it all in the center section.

Small screw jack worked great to remove from housing. Had a puller that removed the pinion and bearing from shaft.
Thanks again guys!

Pushing from the inside of the banjo casting like that could result in destroying the casting. Its better to support the casting from the torque tube flange and then use threaded rod or something to reach down to pull on the pinion...

Good point! It probably wouldn't hurt to heat the casting up a bit prior to pulling the pinion out.

I've never seen an early 32 rear apart - thanks for the pictures. Looks like another great place to cause a failure on a high-performance build! LOL

First one of this type I've taken apart too. I was careful to avoid using excessive force with the jack, and had heat ready if needed. It actually came out quite easily. I figured the pictures might help someone else in the future. Thanks for the suggestions and insight.
