Default Schram details you didn't know YouTube Video, aviation overtones

Hi Everyone, I didn't make this 5 minute video.

I have been peeking in on David's channel as he redid a C-172 and now is tackling a real basket case of a Cub.

Totally unrelated to the airplanes, he's whipped out his grandpa's Schram to get spun up for some blasting. Several details I didn't understand are revealed.

I hope y'all enjoy as much as I did and give the guy a like, it's a small channel and I know some of you members dig aviation.

Episode 2- 1941 J5A Cub - Sandblasting preparation:
https://youtu.be/xArBf5Yhqbg

Oops. It's a SCHRAMM, two M's at the end! If anyone knows how to change a thread title PM me and I'll start a new thread on that topic.

It was an interesting video. I am curious, however, about how much has been edited out between the time he finishes explaining what's what, and it fires up. Nothing is that easy after 15 years.

That looks like a 32 fan, wonder if the block is 32?

A fellow I used to work for set up an old 4-cylinder tractor engine mounted to a 3-point hitch drawn trailer rig so it could be PTO driven. He converted the cylinder head to allow all 4-cylinders to compress air for a sand blaster rigg he made up from salvage parts. Man would that thing make some air pressure.

I'm not a big fan of sand as a media for aircraft parts but a person needs a big booth to do the blasting in order to save and re-use the glass beads. Sand is too harsh for thin wall steel tubing in my book but this isn't my project and I don't have to ride in it.

I gotta believe hat the thing originally had some sort of muffler set up on it, though it seems to be missing now.

The engine is a 21-stud with water pump block offs so it dates to 1937/38 time frame. It's an oldie but goodie.

I like the stationary rigs that flatheads are used for. I bought one that I was told powered a water pump at the old S.D. Warren paper mill in Westbrook, Maine. This wasn’t the first time I started it after I got it running. It has sat for about five years and I’m finally getting back to it. I’m going to try and “de-rust” the inside of the water jackets and put the radiator back in. Would like to find a generator to power with it......Mark

At the time I thought it was a ‘42.....since then I believe it’s post-war.
