I guess what i'm trying to accomplish is the replacement of a 50 cent O-ring as opposed to a $150 control valve.

Not an O ring but some type of packing material- Does not appear to be field repairable. I bypassed heater control valve for now and connected hoses directly to heater core inlet and outlet. will be looking for a rebuilt unit I see they are available.

I am not sure if my valve is exactly the same but it sure is close. The diaphram (not O ring) I replaced on my 50. About $10 at NAPA or old GM parts people. Do a search, there is a guy that does this or if careful can be done yourself. GM and Stude used the same valve.
